I'm not the biggest fan of wellies as they make my feet and legs sweat uncomfortably so my main work boots are generally Caterpillar or Timberland boots but so often the sole becomes detached from the boot while there is otherwise still plenty of life left in them. I've taken them to be repaired before and also tried doing it myself but always within a few weeks or month the sole becomes detached again. So I got to thinking and this is what I came up with. It's not pretty but for a pair of work boots it's fine.
You are going to need some Shoe Goo, pliers, a drill and 2 or 3mm bit and some 2 or 3mm wire.
So first up wedge open where the sole is separating from the boot and clean out the inside as best you can. If you've got some ethanol to hand it doesn't hurt to give all the surfaces a good clean.
And fill with Shoe Goo
Now drill some holes through the sole and the welt
And thread the wire
Twist off the wire and tighten with a pair of pliers
Keep going with the wire stitches until you've gone past where the crack starts and bend the ends of the twists over
Now cover the whole lot in plenty of shoe goo to seal it all up
You now have a fixed pair of boots that should last for a whole while longer.
