A stale seedbed is a bit of a misnomer but it's basically an ordinary seed bed you prepare a few weeks before seeding and then water it well and possibly put a row cover on to encourage weed seeds to germinate. Then flame the bed or hoe it on a very sunny day to kill the baby weeds and seed you crop as normal after, that way you have got rid of most of the weeds before your crop comes up. If you have a flame weeder you can give it another pass a day or two before your crop emerges.
