What we are up to at our property……..

Post by Ian »

Will post some pics as things progress at our land in Hyogo.

Had mechanical problems with both excavators recently, very happy to have them operational again from the end of last week.
This week, making a road for vehicle access, mainly a 4WD Daihatsu Kei, up to the top of the property. Also felled some cedar and hinoki trees, will use them on site, starting with a shelter at the ponds.

That is fantastic! Have you read Sepp Holzer's books by any chance?
What you're doing looks a lot like some of the things I've read in his books and his entire property is all mountain and forest.

How much land do you have? I'd love to have THAT much land that I'd need TWO excavators!

ZN - Both sound like fun. Or how about a Red Bull run through the hinoki trees: https://youtu.be/Hv_DRJZZ2qI?t=1m26s

Paradoxbox - Yes, have read his book, plenty of good ideas in that one.
We have 2.8 hectares. Very early stages at the moment. The excavators sure help to speed up projects e.g. still want another pond next year.

Ian, looking amazing, you should make a zipline through the trees, people will go mad for it.

I can't wait to see the pond area in late spring when the green starts to flesh out.

Is it a wing suit trail then ?

That Red bull bike trail was insane.

And that's probably why you don't see many old wing suit flyers

Gonbechan - Thanks. Yes, a zipline would be fun. Not sure about ZN and his wing suits though, will have to wait for his offer to test them out. :) Got a lot more planting to do around the pond and also looking forward to it greening up next year. Some pics today. A couple of weeks ago we mortared in rocks between the two ponds, there's a swivel pipe to lower the water level in the top pond. With the much needed rain yesterday it was nice to have the water flowing over the rocks. Sure has been dry recently.

CYEK - Should have most of the earthworks, structures etc. done in the next two years. Trees naturally take longer to get established though. I expect the area will look very different in around ten years.
