Mountain and forest building workshop 2023

Post by Zakiyama »

We are hosting a free workshop on our PonPon Satoyama mountain site in Shimokitayamamura, Nara prefecture! Learn from Forestry Advisor, Shingo Ishimaru how to:

Build a foot path on steep slope. Jan. 28 (29th has been canceled)

Gap clear cedar forest for replanting. Feb. 25-26

Plant out saplings and protect them from wildlife. Mar. 25-26

Participate in one weekend or all. We ask that those wishing to participate in the gap clearing weekend be experienced with chainsaw use and have taken a chainsaw course already. Anyone is welcome to observe.

Workshops are conducted in Japanese, but we are happy to try electronic translation and be available with day to day guidance in English.

Design themes:

- transitioning cedar forest to broadleaf forest with ecological benefit to humans and wildlife.

- creating a forested space where children can interact with the landscape through play and educational activities.

Please reference the flyer below and email, reply to this thread or message me with any questions.

Looks very cool.
Learning to build a footpath would be interesting to see, shame it got cancelled.
I write a load of bollocks, don't take me seriously.

Exactly what I was thinking.
"We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children."
