Hi Brett,

Is this a yearly event? If so have you been to it? I'm interested in this event especially the workshop about traditional Japanese joinery. If you have been to this work shop how would you rate it? Could a guy to it and be able to do some of these "kigumi?"

Hi Chuck,

This is the first year it is being held. I believe the plan is to make it a yearly event if everything goes well this year.
I don't know how much of a workshop there will be with joinery, certainly demonstrations and some ability to get hands on I expect, but I would guess it would be quite basic if so. Good opportunity to ask questions though for sure, and way to make contacts with experienced traditional carpenters, etc.

I know that two of the speakers, Jon Stollenmeyer and Yamamoto san from Somakosha plan to offer traditional carpentry classes/lessons/workshops in english based out of their shop in Okayama once the covid situation is more stable.

Brett,
Thanks for the reply. Like you said sounds like a good chance to make contacts. Okayama, oh that would be great, I'm not far from there.

Hi! I just came here to post about this event, and suggest that you take a look at the https://kominkajapan.org/minka-summit-2022including the minka mall which hosts vendors.

I will be running a message board there, so if anyone has services they'd like to advertise or I could even make a little flyer for this Japan Simple Life board--let me know. Your site has taught me a lot, and I think would be helpful to others too.

Hi Wendy, that's a really nice offer that I'd like to take up if you don't mind. We can always do with a little extra publicity so please do let anyone know that you think might be interested in the forum here and thank you very much.
