So, what happens when a new apartment building (six units @ around 50 million yen each) is 30cm too close to the boundary?
Looks like they are going to move the whole building!
Will try and get another pic in the near future.
Measure twice and build once

Woah! What happens in cases like that?
The verandas are almost crossing the boundary.

That's classic Ian, do they have to knock it all down or do you think it's possible to negotiate with the owner of the other property ? I mean if I was the house owner next door I might be persuaded by a very substantial goodwill payment and by substantial I mean eye wateringly high payment or maybe a gift of the top two apartments.

The story so far, from one of the neighbours I know with around 4m to their boundary, so no problem for them, is that the other two neighbours aren’t interested in selling so it looks like the construction company is going to lift the building and shift it to comply with the legal side of things i.e. 1m+.
Last week when I looked, they had dug out under the building.

That brings a whole new meaning to the phrase 'Moving house'
It's a monumental cock up all the same, you've got to wonder how it wasn't flagged up numerous times while the construction work was going on. Nevertheless is could be quite spectacular come the day of the move to see the whole structure moving and no doubt could provide some hilarious comedy if something should go horrifically wrong and end up with the building toppling over.

Man, I wouldn't want to be the new owner of a newly built house that has been forced to move.
I am no expert in buildings but somehow the moving takes away some of the newness. Wonder if it is still stable...

Reminds me of this story.
Couldn't they have just removed the balconies of the offending units?
Seems like much less of a hassle (and cost).

Amazing, the Swiss story.
I wonder if the red balloons are supposed to help lifting
like the movie "Up"

Pic today. There are jacks underneath now and they expect to finish by the end of June.
