Interesting reading Akikana, thank you for sharing.

There's no reason why modern Japanese houses should be demolished after 30 odd years. So long as they've been kept weather proof the frame should still be sound, fair enough you might want to replace the siding if it's got a bit beaten up or you want to change the look of the outside and maybe someone might want to redecorate the inside so it's nice to see that some of the larger building companies and now getting into this.

What about annual property taxes? That has to be paid too right?

With Akiya, you also have to watch out that they do not have unpaid taxes on them.

Hi all,
If anyone has any useful real estate links I'd be interested in seeing them :) We're looking for a house in the Shinano district, Nagano. I've come across a great looking site which lists vacant houses - problem is you need to register with the site to see the properties, and it appears that you have to have an address in Japan in order to register. Possibly these vacant house banks are for residents only??
Cheers,
Susie

Hi Susie, I shall do some more digging. It is my passion and hobby, but I have been rather busy with work recently and have been rather lazy about JSL.

Hi Gonbechan,
That sounds great - any tips would be welcome! I've been using the Goo real estate site, which is pretty good. I was trying to find one within the Shinano district, thinking a local agent/site might have more properties, but haven't been able to find one. The Shinano Town local government has a great website which lists some vacant houses but I'm not sure whether these are available to non-residents.
I can spend hours trawling - "research" can be a great time-waster!
Cheers,
Susie
